What is a Liposuction?

Breast reduction surgery, or alternatively referred to as reduction mammaplasty, can be performed for both aesthetic concerns and medical reasons. The operation is typically done due to issues such as sagging, lack of symmetry, discomfort, and difficulty finding fitting clothes caused by excessively large breasts.

During a liposuction procedure, the surgeon inserts a thin cannula (a type of tube) into the targeted areas. This cannula is connected to a vacuum device for suctioning. The surgeon inserts the cannula into the fatty tissue of the body and removes fat cells through suctioning. This process helps achieve a slimmer and more contoured appearance.

Liposuction is commonly applied to areas where there are excess fat accumulations in the body. These areas include the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, waist, back, upper arms, neck, and chin. However, liposuction is not a solution for excessive weight loss. It is intended for body contouring purposes and does not permanently eliminate fat cells.

Liposuction surgery is usually performed under local or general anesthesia. Post-operative symptoms such as swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are normal. However, the recovery process is generally quick, and patients can often return to their daily activities within a few days. Complete recovery may take several weeks, and it is important for patients to follow the doctor’s recommended instructions during this time.

For more information about liposuction or if you are considering this procedure, it is recommended to consult with a Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist. The specialist can evaluate the most suitable treatment options for you and provide guidance throughout the pre-operative and post-operative periods.

How is the Recovery Period After Liposuction?

Special corsets specifically designed for the amount of fat tissue removed and the individual’s characteristics should be worn after the operation. These corsets are typically worn for approximately 4 to 8 weeks. Swelling and bruising are expected after the procedure but will subside over time. Stitches are usually removed one week after the procedure, and if there are no issues with the patient’s overall condition, they can return to work and daily life within one to three weeks. Normal exercise routines can be resumed 3-4 weeks after the procedure.

Is Liposuction Performed for Sagging Skin?

It is important to note that undergoing this procedure does not guarantee that you will not regain weight. After the operation, lifestyle, diet, and exercise are crucial for maintaining weight to prevent regaining. If there are regional excess fat deposits along with skin sagging, this method will not address existing sagging. Abdominal wall sagging seen in women who have given birth cannot be corrected with liposuction. Additionally, this procedure does not eliminate cellulite.
